The Warmth Of Other Suns
by Isabel Wilkerson

This was an extremely well researched account of the Great Migration that took place in the U.S. between 1915 and 1970. I especially liked how the author chose to tell the life stories of three people as they migrated from the south to cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York, against the backdrop of the wider Migration and historical events like the Great Depression, WWII, and the Civil Rights Movement. I learned so much from reading the personal accounts of these three very memorable figures.

This book is about a boy named Lorenzo Sully and a girl named Kezia and her family have to go live on the Sully's farm when war hits. It's not easy for Kezia, for she is a Roma girl and the Germans are taking over, they don't want the Roma people. Lorenzo meanwhile has a special interest in animals, especially flamingoes. He is is not an ordinary child, but makes a big difference. But when Kezia and her family are threatened, will the Sully's and Kezia's family remain friends and get a carousel that makes the world a better place fixed?
